The 10th USUK Iron Symposium will take place over 10 days. The seventeen selected artists will each produce a cast iron sculpture during the symposium using traditional and experimental molds. Founded in 1997 the focus of the symposium is to provide a platform for artists to explore and push the boundaries of the cast iron medium in contemporary sculpture. In addition to technical demonstrations and presentations structured throughout the symposium, artists learn from each other by working together in the critically engaged environment created by the symposium and its unique site. In the past there have been participation and collaborations from land artists, paper makers, biologists, archaeologists and architects. Directed by Sculptor Coral Lambert, the USUK Symposium will culminate in a Public Iron Pour and Exhibition at Salem Art Works in upstate New York.
